A Place to Build: The Pressroom Is Coming to Rockport
The town's first coworking space for entrepreneurs is opening inside one of Rockport's most storied buildings; and it's already making moves.

I've been watching Rockport grow for a while now. Not from the outside looking in, but from inside the community, close enough to see what's happening, and close enough to see what's missing.

What's missing is a place built for the people doing the building.

Rockport has great cafes. I love them. I've met people there many times. But a café is not where you go when you need to close a deal, finish a proposal, or sit across from a client and actually command the room. It's not where you go to get in the zone. And it's definitely not where you go to find other entrepreneurs who are in the same season of building that you are, because at a café, everyone is just passing through.

That is what drove me to create The Pressroom.

This is not networking. This is work.

When I started thinking about what The Pressroom should be, I kept coming back to one thing. The people who need this space most are not looking for another event to attend or another room full of business cards. They are looking for a place to actually work.

When you walk into The Pressroom, everyone around you will be building something. That is not an accident, it is the nature of a coworking space designed specifically for entrepreneurs. You are not in schmoozing mode. You are in building mode. And so is everyone else in the room.

That proximity matters more than people realize. You end up next to someone who has already been where you are going. You end up in a conversation that shifts how you think about your business. Not because someone organized a panel or a mixer, but because you were both just there, working, and the rest happened naturally.

That is the kind of collaboration I am building The Pressroom around.

Why this building

I did not choose this space by accident.

I moved my media company, Asturian Media, into the former Rockport Pilot building because it made obvious sense, a media company belongs in a media building. But when I decided to build The Pressroom here, something bigger clicked into place.

This building has a history that runs deep in this town. Deadlines were met inside these walls for decades. Stories were written here. A community was informed, connected, and shaped by what was produced in this space. That is not just history, that is a blueprint.

Because business is the same. Every entrepreneur I know is up against a deadline. Every one of them is building a story worth telling. And every business that takes root in a town like Rockport leaves a mark on the community around it. This building understands that. It was built around that idea long before I got here.

The members of The Pressroom will carry that forward. Same walls. New stories.

Who we are building this for

We are building The Pressroom for the entrepreneur who is serious about what they are building but has been making it work wherever they can. The kitchen table. The café. The spare bedroom. They are talented, they are driven, and they deserve a professional space that matches the level they are operating at.

We are building it for the business owner who needs to meet with a client and needs that meeting to go well, which means they need a space that says something about who they are before they say a word.

We are building this for the person who wants flexibility and cost efficiency without sacrificing professionalism. And we are building it for the entrepreneur who is ready to grow beyond what they can do alone, who wants to be around other builders, not just other business card collectors.

If that is you, The Pressroom was built for you.

We are building this in real time — and we have news

I want Rockport to know that we are not waiting until opening day to bring you along. We are building this in real time and will be sharing every step of it on our Facebook page at @thepressroomtx. Come follow along. Watch it take shape. We want you invested in this before the doors even open.

And I have a significant announcement to share.

I am proud to welcome Joanne Soward as a partner in The Pressroom. Joanne is exactly the kind of person this space is built around, someone who brings talent, vision, and a genuine investment in what we are creating here. Having her as a partner changes what The Pressroom becomes. In the best possible way.

Rockport is growing. The entrepreneurs building this town deserve a space that grows with them.

That space is almost ready.

Follow The Pressroom on Facebook at @thepressroomtx and stay close to what we are building.
